I had a little mishap last week in regards to accidentally setting out some fish to thaw, and forgetting about them…  which made them – not so good to fix.


I HAD TO have fish (it’s a whole other story), and we don’t have good options locally…  this was going to be a challenge.

I finally found some frozen USA fish that had the only ingredient on the package was the fish… 

But not before finding some shocking things that was a great reminder of why #1 – we rarely buy foods in packages, and #2 – what the government allows in food in the name of “safe to consume”.

Um.  Carbon Monoxide?  This is poison to inhale... so how about if you're cooking it and it's expelling from the fish?  Suddenly no longer harmful?  Yikes.

Clearly disturbing.

Needless to say, I won’t be making that mistake – ever.

Thankfully my mother-in-law graciously shared some fresh water fish (from family who caught and cleaned) where we know the source instead.  She just happened to have some extra in the freezer!  H-yVee did have some store packaged fish that was also USA and no additives.  Read those labels!!

Might Doctors Listen Now?

It appears doctors might be listening, as the explosion of auto immune diseases baffles many.  As they research and realize their blood tests aren’t showing everything they hoped to, and people are looking outside the tall, white, narrow-minded box.   In a study done by a group of molecular biologists in England, they figured our that the neutralization of adenoviruses (the viruses that cause things like the common cold) by antibodies was happening INSIDE the cell, not outside – as expected.  The paper, which challenged immunology, was largely ignored… but it appears doctors might be rethinking things.

Similarly to how MY blood work wasn’t showing much more than a heightened, speckled ANA titer number in western medicine, and my sed rate wasn’t sky-high – despite clearly major fluctuations in swelling systemically OR how allergen skin tests proved unfruitful – while alterative medicine was able to see exactly what my cells were doing when put with specific foods.   It was causing major auto-immune reactions, clearly proving it was food that was a major contributor as to how untreated celiac turned into MS, and it went far beyond gluten.

While I don’t approve of more vaccines to be the answer on how our world defines “living healthy”, I found this recent article in the Wall Street Journal very intriguing.  It shows me once again, doctors (especially immunologists) have a long way to go learning about auto immune disease processes in the body – and as patients, we need to listen to our bodies – and be our own advocates!!  I had said before, “if only there was such a thing as an “auto-immunologist” – I’m sure that doctor would listen.” as the immunologists were the least helpful in our search for what was making me sick.  Apparently if it wasn’t black and white in the blood work, antidepressants were the drug of choice.  Oye!  Let me know your thoughts!

“The Magic Molecule of Immunity?”  – By Matt Ridley, Wall Street Journal, May 25th, 2013

“It isn’t often that an entire field of medical science gets turned on its head. But it is becoming clear that immunology is undergoing a big rethink thanks to the discovery that antibodies, which combat viruses, work not just outside cells but inside them as well. The star of this new view is a protein molecule called TRIM21.

 Dissident researchers have sparked a big rethink in the science of fighting infection.

Until recently, the conventional wisdom was that the body fights off infection in two separate ways. First is the adaptive immune system, which works outside the cell. It generates antibodies to intercept specific invaders, locking onto them like a tracking missile and preventing them from entering the cell. A second line of defense, the innate immune system, operates within the cell; it is like an expansive air-defense network, blasting away at all invaders.

Three years ago work by Leo James, William McEwan and their colleagues at the Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge revealed that this understanding was incomplete. They found that the neutralization of adenoviruses (common viruses causing colds and other infections) by antibodies was happening mainly inside the cell, not outside, and by an unexpected mechanism.

Their announcement—a challenge to the entire field of immunology—elicited a predictable immune reaction of its own from the establishment. Sure enough, leading journals rejected the Cambridge group’s paper, sometimes without even reviewing it, while key funding agencies turned down the group’s grant applications.

Gradually, though, the authors have won the argument. New papers from the group have pinned down what is going on. They describe a potent detection mechanism that links the antibodies outside a cell with its innate immunity, somewhat dissolving the distinction between the two.

Dr. James’s team has shown that if an adenovirus enters the cell with antibodies attached, those antibodies will attract TRIM21 molecules, which pull the virus into a disposal system and send danger signals to put the whole cell in a state of antiviral alert. This explains the hitherto baffling finding that just one or two antibody molecules can neutralize a virus 1,000 times their size.

The significance of the group’s finding is just sinking in. It gives medicine a whole new angle on infection, and it just might crack the hitherto almost insuperable problem of how to cure viral infections, rather than just prevent them by vaccination. Though treatments do exist for viruses such as HIV, they are neither as common nor as effective as antibiotics for bacterial infections. No effective remedy exists, for example, for the many kinds of common cold, whatever your grandmother says.

Perhaps the new knowledge that TRIM21 and other molecules like it are key antiviral defenders will lead to a true antiviral therapy, though if it was as easy as turning up the volume of TRIM21, then cells would surely be doing it. And it’s worth noting that some viruses (including HIV) use a tactic for getting into cells that allows them to evade TRIM21.

The discovery may aid vaccine design and begins to explain why gene therapy has often run into trouble. Such therapy uses adenoviruses to carry new genes into cells, but frequently this provokes a strong native-immune response. TRIM21 possibly plays a part in this. Finally, there is a chance that TRIM21 will help to explain autoimmune diseases, in which the body attacks itself. TRIM21 itself is a target of autoantibodies in autoimmune conditions such as lupus.

In short, we will be hearing more from this molecule.”

Healthy Gifts

My birthday month is upon us!

I know, I’m an adult, I shouldn’t care about my birthday… but I do.

You see, ever since I was a child – having a summer birthday was a sort of downer. We never got to celebrate during school, and I didn’t see most of my friends. I can count on a few fingers the friend parties I had… and to make matters more depressing for a selfish child (as I was) – I had to SHARE the day frequently with my DAD….

Yep, it fell on Father’s Day often… and wouldn’t you know it – this year it does also.

We have a lot of celebrating going on the week of my birthday too, (which is another reason why it needs to last an entire month.) Our anniversary, (15 years!) and our 5th child’s birthday also fall in the same week with father’s day. It’s a busy week with lots of blessings!

Alas, I am a big girl – and I get over things pretty easily now… but years ago, before God truly took my heart and reminded me that a day to celebrate Him creating me isn’t all about ME. (Nor is it about my husband finding this perfect gift to show me how much he loves me… While that’s a pleasant thought, It’s not the point. It’s truly about HIM and the thankfulness I have in all circumstances. I might have let Hollywood dictate how my husband should be adoring me… this is no longer is that the case!)

After Christmas this year – when my husband asked me what I “wanted”… I told him all I wanted was to be WELL again. That was right about the time I was led to my naturopath – which was the best investment we ever made into my health future! I suppose for my birthday month, it will be present enough to get all of these amalgams out of my head!

Speaking of great gifts, this year I wanted to come up with something special for my Father-in-Law who recently went to a gluten-free diet. I found a great gift basket from Steve’s Paleo Goods, and I got some snacks for us to try as well! Grass fed jerky, dried apples, and paleo crunch cinnamon granola for my grain-free daughter!! Yum!


I love gift giving, and I’m all about healthy food gifts this year. I’ve been buying lots of cookbooks for gifts, gift cards for organic produce and we got both of our parents a year of fruit from Harry and David. What a blessing for the people who already have it all or don’t need any more “stuff”! Invest in their health and encourage those you love!

Flooded With Nutrition


According to the American diet, I was eating healthy when I got sick.  I was working out 5-7 times a week.  I had been feeling great.

So why did I get sick?

Great question, and I have the answer I had to come to terms with.

It wasn’t an overnight process… it was years of toxins and gut issues bogging down my system – storing up and disrupting my cells.  Undiagnosed celiac for years and at least 5 years of MS symptoms were under the radar – caused by WHAT?

There was a time that I didn’t eat well, nor pay attention to my toxin load.  I drank a 32 oz of pop a day for several years and slept 4-5 hours a night.  I ate lots of sugary treats, drank skim milk and ate out often consuming junky oils and MSG.  Even when I was eating healthy, I was eating things that weren’t feeding my body the nutrients it so desperately needed and my body wasn’t able to absorb any of it anyway.  I was clueless really

How must I eat now?

Night and day difference.

My husband said last night, “Honey you basically have to eat like you’re fighting off cancer, for the rest of your life.”

He’s exactly right.
The choice is health, or sickness for me.  There is really no choice to get to the root of the problems.  Food is my medicine.

The one thing people with auto immune disease, cancer and autism have in common is a lack of ability to get rid of toxins easily.  They hold onto them and they produce about 50% less glutathione that a normal person.  Glutathione is what your body makes to help rid your body of toxins.  The amount your body makes, decreases with age.  With the up swing of toxins in our lives today – in the environment, foods, sprays, cleaners, vaccinations, etc. – it’s not a wonder we have so many diseases on the rise in the country despite the “best health care” in the world.

Once a person realizes they have an auto immune disease, or cancer – they should be flooding their body with nutrition – for the remainder of their lives.

They should never go back to the way things were.  Short term satisfaction will come at a price I’m not willing to pay.

Unfortunately, the “treatments” offered in disease care, focus on getting you back to your “normal” life as quickly as possible, not how you got there in there first place.

That’s WHY you can’t go back to your old ways of living, because of your body’s predisposition to malfunction in the way it did – and it will happen again and again if you continue doing what you were doing before.  It just pops up somewhere else.

So what changes have I had to make to my diet?

It’s easier to tell people what I can eat, than what I can’t.  I can have most veggies, and some fruit – and so far pastured eggs – I can tolerate.  I can eat organic/grass-fed meats, but limited.  I can eat and drink coconut milk and water.  That’s it.

No sugar, no coffee/tea, no chocolate, no yeast, no dairy, no gluten, no seeds, no soy, no nuts, no nightshades….  you get the point.

We are all dying, from the day we are born on earth.  I don’t wish to add any more days to my life, than God has ordained, that’s not why I do this.

HOW I choose to live those days – is very important to me because I can see how it relates to my health.

The things I don’t eat – cause problems for me either digestively, or with chronic inflammation – systemically.  (Either in my eyes or my hips/legs/feet, and they induce cramping such as MS “hugs” which can take my breath away.)

Eating things that make me sick – continues to destroy my body, and it’s something I’m acutely aware of.   Even a trace amount of gluten makes me very ill digestively and neurologically, so it’s not a chance I’m willing to take by eating out any more.

It is the myelin sheath that is harmed – or rebuilt, depending on what I eat.  Cell and nerve regeneration – is possible… it’s just a slower process, and I’m fine with that.

I find encouragement in others who also used FOOD to be well.  Dr. Terry Wahl’s essentially went on a Paleo diet, including 9 cups of vegetables a day.  (That means she juiced as well as ate veggies to get that many servings in).  She was able to also eat nuts, nightshades and seeds…  to reversed her secondary progressive MS.

Technically, if I read her book and attempted HER way of doing things.  I’d still be having symptoms, and wondering why?   It’s a very healthy way of eating, after all.  But it comes down to this – her way was “close” –  but God designed me differently.

I basically eat the way Gerson Therapy suggests, with less juice.  I try to have 2-3 glasses of juice a day, and just flood my body with nutrients and detox my body as much as possible through various methods.  ** I do eat limited animal protein because I notice I feel really poorly with adrenal fatigue when I don’t.

I think that’s why the Gerson Therapy, or Auto Immune Protocol diet works SO well in reversing disease and symptoms.  It’s because once you eliminate any potential food issues – you can really begin to see the things that are causing you issues, and it takes such a great toxin load off of your system.

Next week I begin getting my amalgam fillings out.  I’m confident this will just be one more step in the right direction for me, and I look forward to the opportunity to do this.  I’ve heard lots of good things, especially searching on MS patients who saw great improvements after realizing mercury poisoning was a contributor to their MS.  I see it as just one more toxin I need to detox from –  to be healthy for Him.

Scary Beets?

I never ate a beet, until last week.

If you eat them regularly, then you’re probably laughing right now… because I’m giggling at myself a little bit.

My husband swore they were horrid, and it was one of the things he was “tortured” with eating growing up – canned beets.

Well, my mom never fixed them. I assumed I must be blessed with the way my husband spoke of these lovely roots. I’m actually surprised she didn’t make us eat them – she was pretty good about making us eat “all things terrible” while my friends got the “yummy foods” from boxes… things like ho-hos and mac-n-cheese.

What’s the saying about how you don’t realize how SMART your mother is until you’re grown? Yes, this definitely applies to me.

We ate lots of “brain food” and our snacks were fresh fruits and vegetables. (and WHOLE WHEAT for that matter) But beets were never on the list.

I’m going to guess either she didn’t care for them, or didn’t like dealing with their royal red mess?

I tried some beets in juice about a year ago, and once was enough for me. I was pretty sure my husband was accurate. In defense of the beet family, it was NOT an organic beet, and “earthy” or “DIRT” comes to mind.

The color was gorgeous. The taste was horrid.

Beets are mentioned time and time again in health blogs, books and now my chiropractor had mentioned them more than a few times to me.

Then my good friend started sharing that she was loving BEETS a lot too… and I really got curious.

Could this root really be tasty? Maybe I just got a “bad beet”… and organic will be better? How do I fix it? Can I choke it down?

Well the PROS of beets, far out weighed the cons, because I can tell you that beets are actually VERY tasty. No spices needed. I simply steamed them, and roasting in tin-foil is a good option too – and I’ve been eating them warm or cold – daily!

So WHY are beets so good for you?

Well, there are countless reasons but here are a few:

1. guard against colon cancer…. (and with years of chronic inflammation in my gut – I need any help I can get.)

2. Medical studies have also shown that including beets in your diet helps protect a body against heart disease.

3. Beets contain sodium, magnesium, calcium, iron and phosperous. They are considered a fiber food and contain vitamins A and C and niacin too!

4. Beets are a carbohydrate – so they help give you energy! Some athletes consume them to improve performance. (The Lord knows I need all of the help I can get with energy!)

5. Beets contain folic acid which is needed for the production and maintenance of new cells. (It’s not just for pregnancy – this is extremely important for me, and anyone who is sick – needing cell regeneration!)

6. Beets are to your bile, as paint thinner is to paint. They really help organs, like your gall bladder, function more normally (even getting rid of dysfunction – gall stones!)

7. Beets give a brain boost according to some studies. (I certainly feel more “sparkly” up top after I eat some beets)

8. Beets also contain numerous phytochemicals, including quercetin, (which I take to fight off seasonal allergens) and other potent antioxidants. So they must help against allergy issues too!

9. Beets contain high amounts of Boron – which is related to the production of sex hormones. (Ladies, your husbands want you to eat more beets!)

10. Beets are fabulous for your liver and help purify your blood. (Good thing because they are BLOOD colored, which is another FYI – when your process them – do not be alarmed that your stools might carry a RED tint. You are not bleeding! This completely freaked me out the first time.)

Sweet Treat

My kids LOVE popsicles in the summer time… but I don’t love the price for gluten-free/dairy-free treats – at 4 in a box for $6+, gasp!  Thankfully, due to the internet, there are tons of options out there that won’t make us go broke, and without any preservatives!

All you need is some BPA free popsicle molds, that were dishwasher safe – like the ones my friend told me about on a tip from the 100daysofrealfood blog.  I bought two sets from, and I was in business.

We just grabbed a few ingredients that we had on hand and went to work dumping things into the blender, pouring them out and freezing!  (that took some patience but they were SO worth it!)  This filled up 12 molds, with a bit left over to refill 4 more the following day.

* 1 can of coconut milk

* 1/2 tsp pure vanilla

* 2 Tablespoons raw honey

There are several with berries, and I’ve seen a chocolate we’re excited to try as well!  YUM!

Have You Been “Doctored”?


Early on in my journey for seeking answers on my health issues, I Googled a lot, and read a lot.  (Who am I kidding?  I still read a lot!) 🙂

I used to be slightly offended when people would say, “Oh, did you just read that some where?”  (As if this indicated it was in your head, not verified by a western medicine doctor or bloodwork.)  Unfortunately, as I found out – there are countless limitations to western medical testing and blood testing.

While searching, I often came across things called “quack reports” from a site called “QUACK WATCH”.  I assume these were informational pages to help people from making foolish decisions, and to keep the masses from doing unnecessary procedures, or listening to “quacks”.

I for one, was a bit leery about doing some of the testing I did with my naturopath – because it was listed on quack watch and some of Web MD and Wikipedia as … for lack of better word – bunk.

No one wants to be played a fool.

Clearly medical doctors follow science – and so, they must have the leg up on some of these more natural ways of doing things…  right?  I mean, they’re doctors.

Well, as my mother-in-law once said – they’re PRACTICING medicine, so that is what they know.  Medicine.  Not healing your body inside out.  They’re obviously not God, and they don’t have all of the answers.

If fluoride were dangerous why is it in our toothpaste and water supply?  (Great question – because it’s dangerous!)  If metals are dangerous, why is a 50% mercury amalgam filling allowed in someone’s head and why do they put thirmosal in flu vaccines? (Great question because it’s the most toxic metal on earth!) If all of these vaccines weren’t safe for newborns and babies why do they get SO many shots from first breath to  age 5? (why again is ADHD, food sensitivities and Autism on the rise – could these two things be related?) Why are women put on Synthroid for thyroid issues, and still having major problems?  (When natural options that have T3 and T4 are available and cost so much less with no side effects?)   If alternative medicine were the right way to fight disease –  if it was THAT effective, medical doctors would have already been doing it – right?

Oh my.  I could have never been more wrong.

Turns out the “quacks” aren’t so nuts after all.

Well, let’s start with what IS a quack and who came up with “quack watch”?  What is really their motive and why in the world wouldn’t we have figured out the truth by now?

If you’ve seen the Beautiful Truth, or The Gerson Miracle, than you know some about this.  It’s the AMA who set up a committee in the 60s to label and repeat the term “quacks” for any type of chiropractor, holistic doctor or treatment to steer people away from natural healing practices – ensuring their own ability to make money.  You know, doctors can’t make enough money if people eat  well and live a healthy lifestyle.  I’m guessing they thought if they repeated the word “QUACK” enough, people would steer clear of these helps, and true cures, and assume medical doctors were the ultimate authority on health and well being.

For many people – it’s worked.  In fact, unless you’ve really been challenged in the western medicine format – you’re probably content to go right along with the crowd – taking out organs and taking pills to mask the disease.  Partly for fear (and they LOVE thrusting us into a cycle of fear – don’t they?  Just ask Chris Wark from and partly just due to time – you wouldn’t research something – you don’t question.

BUT, if you’re like me – and so many countless others – who didn’t fit their mold, and didn’t want what they were selling… perhaps you took another route – and discovered… there’s a whole lot of lying and selling going on.  All for the sake of money, and pride and the cost is YOUR health and future.

The movie Doctored explains in great depth how the whole scandal came about, and it’s rather sickening for any intelligent person to realize – they’ve been HAD.  Not just a little bit – but basically your whole life.

From what we learn in school regarding diet and nutrition (how many servings of whole grains again??), to what is required to even get into school (how many shots and what is in them?)  It’s all based on a profit margin, and your health is NOT the focus.  Races for a cure, researching things like rare cancers and diseases – all could be SO much less, it’s insane.

The FDA and USDA present food that they know makes people sick, and yet – labels and regulations are manipulated to get by.

Due to our own daily attack on our bodies – through horrific,  poor diets, high amounts of stress, and poor quality sleep…  disease and the selling of pharmaceuticals seems to be the norm.

It’s expected, in fact.  

Doctors tell us everything is genetic, and we believe that too… and we fall into the same traps our parents did, only we’re sicker younger…  and we get on drugs sooner – for longer… and we expect this?

So when you’re wondering just who is telling the truth, when you read anything from quack watch – watch DOCTORED the movie (and friend them on Facebook, they’re working on a new video called UNDOCTORED as well), and be prepared to see things in a whole new light.  You will see various issues from several families and patients that will be enough to make you realize the truth.

Thanks to technology – a lot of people are waking up to the reality of what has happened and continuing to happen – unless we make some serious changes.

It’s an unfortunate day when a medical doctor degrades a patient for being knowledgable about their body, symptoms and situation.  Many times, now a days, patients know more about their disease and symptoms before a general practitioner does – because they have an invested interested in learning and a specific disease they’re showing symptoms for.  Licensed holistic doctors encourage patients to co-learn and be responsible for their health.  (and we should be responsible – it’s our life on the line)

In both cases – a doctor can only say so much… it has to be the patient who acts.  In the case of alternative medicine – you have an option to change your life to be healthy – as your whole body works as one amazing machine.  In western medicine, you continue masking each symptom of the source of your problems until the weakest part breaks down first – and you die.

Such a pleasant thought.  Which path do you want to be on?

** A small disclaimer that there are plenty of doctors who do not realize what they are doing – and their intent isn’t to harm people… they are simply practicing as they were taught to.  They were only required to take about 6 credit hours of time focus on nutrition.  Information on auto immunity and cancers being all tied to toxicity, food stress and sleep weren’t as clear as they are today – and essentially they have been sold a bill of goods as well.  I forgive them, and extend grace to them, just as God extends His grace to me.

Trans-Fats Don’t Budge!

When we got back from vacation this week, we had to replenish our supply of produce!  My husband under estimated my haul, and only brought one cooler.  Whoops!  At least with fresh produce - you KNOW there is no trans fats!!

The word “trans fats” used to be “thee” word on the label to avoid in previous years…before we realized MSG, gluten and others were an issue for us…   we knew  trans-fats  were BAD NEWS.

But, what are they exactly and why are they so bad?  Are they like MSG?  Are they still in processed foods, but HIDDEN?  Have food producers have just gotten around fence by implementing a secret gate?

What are trans fats?

They are fatty acids that disrupt cellular functions.  This is their greatest danger.  Essentially,  they start messing with cells – which in turn, starts disturbing every part of your body.  It’s not an immediate reaction, but a build up of destruction that takes place over time.

The human enzyme (lipase – which breaks down the fats in our body), is ineffective against trans fats.  This means, they stick in our blood stream longer, causing plaque formation in your arteries, and here is the worst part:

Once in your cell membranes: TRANS FATS CANNOT BE REMOVED.


In addition, when the integrity of the cells are damaged to the point the cell membranes can’t interact chemically as they are supposed to, the body’s immune system may no longer recognize them.  There are studies that show how trans fats settle into brain cells and the myelin sheath.  This obviously worsens auto immune diseases like MS and fibromyalgia.  They can also affect the brain in a way that it depletes your body’s stores of omega-3 which is an essential fatty acid needed for brain function.

A good example is looking at the disruption trans fats can have on cell membranes, which makes them interfere with insulin receptors that control blood sugar – obviously, this would worsen diabetes.

Are They Still In Processed Foods?

YES.  Even if the label states: “Trans Fats = 0 grams” –  The FDA only requires food companies to list trans fat content IF the food contains .5 grams or more per serving.  So, if it lists .49 grams?  You got it…  “0 Trans Fats” are listed.

What To Look For?

If you’re curious as to what some KEY words are in  label reading of a product – the FDA website has a warning from the US Dept. Of Health and Human Services against these words:

Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil’

Food products that generally contain trans fats are the following:

crackers, cake mixes, granolas, margarine, cupcake and cake icings, fried foods, Cool Whip, potato chips, hot chocolate mixes, cookies, pizza dough, frozen snacks (burritos, pizza, pot pies), Crisco, fast food, microwave popcorn, soups, ice cream, packaged cheeses, doughnuts.

Why the FDA lets them in our food at all – is a mystery.  For an association which is supposed to keep our food supply “safe”, they are certainly falling short in countless areas, and people continue to get sicker and sicker in this nation.

Remember our body NEEDS fats.  Your brain needs fat.  Just the right ones – from butter, lard, meats, nuts and coconut oil.  NOT from the chemically “created” trans fats from “products” and processed foods.  The easiest way to avoid these things – is to simply  eat real food!

One side note.  I was recently told, by another random blogger (not someone who knows me personally) that I come across as angry, and that wasn’t helpful to people.  I just want you to know – that while I had a terrible experience that I share – for those who don’t know me – I’m not an angry person.  I am so grateful to God that He has helped me through this process, and is continuing by my side.  I don’t think I’m extra special – I’m a sinner who listen when God was speaking.  I faithfully prayed and God put people in my path to help me.  I’m blessed with resources to be able to read many books and discern information that I know others don’t always have access too – THAT is why I share what I do.  It is not because I want to elevate myself above anyone.  I know those who know me, know and understand my heart.   Sure I don’t trust western medicine when it comes to treating disease, but there are plenty of good things that modern medicine has provided to people.  I simply feel and think differently because of my experience.  It doesn’t make me better than anyone – but I do hope you too can find this peace of understanding that you are much more in control over you disease and your health than you realize – and it often resides within what your body is needing from your diet and the choices you have made in the past – than it does your “genes”.  A holistic doctor or naturopath is an excellent start on the road to healing vs. living with a diagnosis or masking symptoms!  God Bless!

Pucker-Up Buttercup!


Or is it… beet-cup?


Because this juice was sure to make you make a face!

You know what babies need?  Milk right?   Similarly, when I was a baby at juicing, I couldn’t handle some of the juices without some fruit.  A little orange at least.  That was my infant “milk” for juicing.

I needed to broaden my horizons.  It was time.

That needed to happen TODAY.

Why the change?

Well, between the prep and action of our 10 day vacation, the stress of my mom’s poor health, and just continuing to chelate this high level of mercury in me – my body is  struggling.  I want to be sure I’m doing everything I can to help it detox, de-stress and rebuild – and combining certain foods (mainly fruits with veggies is a no-no right now). 

I got my supplies all out to try Chris Wark’s (From juice suggestion.  All organic of course (and if you’ve not tried organic, let me just put this plug in – the #1 difference – is it TASTES so much better… it actually has flavor!  I had a non-organic beet for juice one time – and it tasted just like DIRT.  No lie.  ICK!)  Ok, back to the juice.

– 5 carrots

– 3 stalks of celery

– 1/4 of a beet

– about a thumb sized piece of raw ginger root

So that’s it – I worked this through my new commercial Champion juicer – and it produced a beautiful glass of 8oz juice.



Each drink was interesting –  Not bad.  Just… interesting.  Different.  Most prominently celery, with an after taste of ginger.  (a little goes a long way!)

I’m hopeful that I can develop a taste for this.


Because this juice is really good for detoxing… and I really have a lot of junk to get out of my body!

The up note was that when I finished this juice – in 5 large gulps…  my brain felt “sparkly” (if that is possible)…  I really did like the after effect!

Big-Time Preparations


What does it take to plan a trip for our family?
A little bit of work.
A little bit of planning.
A whole lot of food!

So before we packed up to leave our vacation home, I had a few preparations in get lined up:

– 6 lbs of chicken to slice and fry in olive oil
– 6 lbs of bacon to bake in the oven
– 2 dozen Paleo muffins (morning glory and banana chocolate chip).
– 10 dozen apples sliced, bagged and sprinkled with vitamin C powder. (To keep from browning!)
– 1 lb of mini carrots cut into halves
– chopped celery and broccoli for snacking.
– 1 large bag of grapes, cleaned and cut into smaller bunches.
– 1 dozen mandarin oranges cleaned and bagged.
– a dozen gluten-free cookies to bake.
– two large salads for me with cut veggies and chicken.
– plenty of coconut and almond yogurt and chia seed (gotta keep the digestion going so we all stay healthy!)
– Sandwich bread, engine 2 wraps,
pb and Applegate Farm meats for sandwiches.

Traveling with our food all prepared helps cut down on stops and that’s a blessing for everyone! I can’t believe the time we used to waste just parading into a restaurant and paying double for substandard food! Just one more way we keep it Healthy for Him! (And keep ourselves from getting sick!)
