Fight The Good Fight

For those in the Facebook world , you might have stumbled across, or have a friend who knew or knew of Jen Thompson.

In the photography world, of which I am a part – I knew her story… a mom of two young boys, a photographer, a Christian… fighting for her life – from stage 4 ovarian cancer.

It never seems fair, and yet God doesn’t promise fair.  As another mom struggling right now mentioned – God makes some “fit for the trial” to show His glory through hardship.

Jen passed away today, and her memory of being a strong fighter – lives on.

You see, cancer can do a lot of things… but it would never take her eternal peace and rest in Him.  You might have remembered a story I wrote about my “Be Still” necklace, and the designer of that also made a line of jewelry for Jen Thompson.  Ironically, these two young moms, from that SAME town in Oregon… were brought together by God through one of the most horrific trials of their lives.  It’s a small world when it comes down to it… and He has a purpose in all things, even if we can’t see it in our timing.  Praying for these two young men and their future without their loving mother on earth.  To God be the glory.  {Warning – grab the tissues.}

We Won’t Be Defeated from Benjamin Edwards on Vimeo.

If there was something I was reminded of today – it was this:

Each day is a gift.  Don’t waste that gift.  DO. ALL. YOU. CAN.  So in my fight to be healthy for Him… despite being on my feet all day doing nothing but (what seems like) cooking and baking to make my little guy’s 6th birthday extra special….  I am tying on my exercise shoes – and working out.

All glory be to God, who allowed me life today.

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,

neither the present nor the future,

nor any powers,

neither height nor depth,

nor anything else in all creation,

will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

  1. Went to Jen’s memorial service yesterday, thought of you….

  2. How nice that you could go! I knew several who were going/hoping to go. I’m sure it was a beautiful tribute.

  3. It was….I’ve become good friends with several of her close friends also, was good to be together.

  4. Did you know anyone that was there?
