I Don’t Feel Like Eating… But You Must!

Hello July!  It’s great to see you!  I’m not sure if it’s hot where you are… but the temperature has been FIRE HOT here.  Sometimes that can make us lose the desire to eat much… and I suppose that can be a good thing, if over eating is an issue for you.

One of the things I’ve encountered over the years, was a lack of a desire to eat.  Whether I was going out to eat some where new, vacationing, in a stressful situation…. most “events” revolve around food.

When you have GI issues, this can be a nightmare.  You don’t want to be rude… and you don’t want to be sick… and you don’t really want to worry about it – you just want to EAT!!

Inevitably someone might ask, “Did you try THIS?”  or “This is so great… aren’t you going to eat any of this?”

I always tried to say something short and sweet…. to the effect of, “No thank you….” or “I’m full….”  or “I try to stick with things I know don’t upset my tummy.”

That usually was followed up by strange looks, a rolling of the eyes… or some comment about how I never try new things.

Now that I’m over that… or rather, I’m picky with a health-reason…

I still have days at home – after I’ve made the children their sandwiches or lunch…  that personally I just don’t feel like eating.

It’s hot, I’m tired… nothing sounds very good.

I know I have to eat…. and getting the RIGHT calories are important too!

So in one of my last horrific bouts of my celiac in full digestive swing, I was desperate to keep food and calories in – and I did the unthinkable (for me).  I began drinking my meals to get and keep the most basic food in.  I started with just spinach and fruit smoothies with SILK and switched it up with a drink mix called Vega One.

So about 6 months ago, when my friend Taryn mentioned a drink mix (Vega One) – I sort of shrugged it off.  I wasn’t big into drinking calories.  After she knew I was drinking smoothies – she must have seen her chance, and I’m SO glad she did.

Little did I know how thankful I would be…  She claimed it was tasty (I got chocolate, of course!) and it didn’t have artificial junk in it… it was also gluten, dairy and soy free.  It was also only 138 calories and 1g net sugar in the mixture itself.  When it said, “ALL NATURAL” – for once, this brand means it.  We got it at Vitacost.

Now it’s my go to drink when I’m feeling kinda bunk and don’t have salad supplies on hand.  It’s a great supplement and it IS totally tasty.  I even ordered the Vanilla one for my kids who are now lactose free as well!  They also offer it in berry, and in smaller quantities.  The only thing is that I don’t use a full scoop, and it does warn about working your way up to the fiber in it.  Even with my fussy tummy, it’s never been an issue.

Yea!  A Winner! 🙂
