.. and build each other up! (1 Thess. 5:11)
At home, we’ve been studying about the Holy Spirit.
Well, let me back track a minute – we’ve been studying about God – in three persons, and we finally reached God, the Holy Spirit and all His glory…
Often times when I’m learning about other things, I’m struck with how something I learned previously – now seems to speak to me in regards to health. I mean, I truly think about other things too… but I often marvel about how God has transformed my mind and heart on this particular matter – and how He continues to open up His word in various ways that keeps me thirsting for more.
Well today, I’m here to build you up… but far more powerful than my encouraging words or actions, is your helper – the Holy Spirit!
The Holy Spirit isn’t just some “thing” – it’s God. He is a personal being and you can call on Him anytime – day or night! How’s that for service?
“For His Spirit searches out everything and shows us God’s deep secrets… No one can know God’s thoughts except God’s own Spirit.” – 1 Cor. 2:10-11
So not only does He know God’s thoughts… He knows ours! He knows our deepest needs, and desires… and He know when we’re tired, tempted, sad or frustrated – and He’s there for us to call on.
The key is … actively remembering to do that.
Before God reached out and grabbed my heart – I didn’t think about the Holy Spirit always being available – to help me, in every way.
Especially when I felt tempted.
I fell into the lies of the world that told me I needed to follow my heart, do what felt good to me… tasted good (and LOTS OF IT!). I often felt and acted helpless… even thought I don’t remember anyone forcing me to never exercise, or stuffing brownies and ice cream down into my mouth!
But does my heart tell God’s Truth to me all the time?
No. In fact, quite the opposite. Scripture says my heart is deceitful, and untrustworthy.
So, we go back to Scripture… and GOOD news. Guess who is there to remind you of Scripture you’re hiding in your heart?
Exactly. The Holy Spirit.
Thanks be to God!
So along with all of that healthy food and exercise you’re concentrating on – first and foremost, be sure you’re filling up on His word, and calling daily on the Holy Spirit to strengthen and encourage you to keep moving in HIS direction. He will be the one that can keep you focused on LIFE LONG change and transformation!
“But when He, the Spirit of Truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; He will speak only what He hears, and He will tell you what is yet to come. He will glorify Me because it is from Me that he will receive what He will make known to you.” – John 16:13-14
